What do you use to record your classes?

Ready to record some of your own classes or creations?

I have to tell you, when I start something, I go as low-key and inexpensive as possible. I don't want to put money into something that I don't know is going to work. Plus, recording equipment can get SUPER expensive. So, if you are like me- this post is for you!

  1. Computer: I have a 16-inch MacBook Pro. I use this to record on.

  2. Iphone: I have also recorded on my iPhone using the camera app that comes with the phone… bare bones I tell ya!

  3. Lav Mic: I have the Pop Voice PV510+ lavalier microphone that attaches to my shirt. I love this little mic because it has a long cord from my computer to my shirt so I don't feel tied to my computer.

  4. QuickTime Player: This is free software that comes on the MacBook. I use this to record in and for my first class I edited inside this program.

  5. Adobe Premier Rush: After editing in QuickTime the first class, I did a little more research and started using this as it was included in the Adobe package I have.

  6. Ubeesize 10" Selfie Ring Light: This light held my phone and gave light while I was filming. I wouldn't recommend this light. It gets top heavy and falls over and was super awkward. I am not a filming pro, so maybe you would have an easier time.

That's the super bare bones version of how I filmed my first class. I didn't have a fancy backdrop, shoot I didn't even have an office to shoot in. I waited until nap time and a clearish day in Portland, Oregon (LOL) to have enough light in our living room. I had a super bright white wall behind me and our biggest window in front of me. I don't use a teleprompter, although I do think that would be super handy. As I have started to film more I have upgraded a few things:

  1. Mountdog Softbox Lighting Kit: This light box kit comes with two big lights that really help light up my surroundings and space.

  2. Video editor: I had a recommendation from someone that does a lot of classes for an amazing human on UPWORK that does editing by the hour. It takes me so long to edit and I am too close to the process, this was a great thing to pass off!

And that's it, nothing too fancy over here. Aside from the editing, each purchase was under $100, so it felt manageable.

The last thing I want to say about filming is give yourself twice the amount of time you think you will need to film. I always have 10,000 bloopers to get out of the way before there is something good, lol! Good luck!
